Opening Sequences and Setting - Conclusion
Having looked at two opening sequences from films that are from different genres, I’ve noticed that directors use various techniques to introduce setting to the audience (and use this introduction to setting to create meaning and specific expectations in relation to the narrative). This includes the choice of camera distances, the use of camera movement, shot composition and music, which work together to establish the mood of the film but also to engage the audience from the very beginning and make them feel immersed.
